The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth,
and his heart was filled with pain.
So the Lord said,
“I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth —
men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—
for I am grieved that I have made them.”
Genesis 6:6-7
Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight

for the earth is filled with violence because of them.
I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.

I will send among them.”

from one end of the earth to the other.
They will not be mourned or gathered up or buried,
but will be like refuse lying on the ground.
Jeremiah 25:32-33
“ ‘If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me,
I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve.
I will send wild animals against you,
and they will rob you of your children,
destroy your cattle and make you so few in number
that your roads will be deserted.
If in spite of these things you do not accept my correction
but continue to be hostile toward me,
I myself will be hostile toward you
and will afflict you for your sins seven times over.
And I will bring the sword upon you
to avenge the breaking of the covenant.’ ”

But Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory.
He mustered his entire army
and marched out into the desert against Israel.
When he reached Jahaz, m he fought with Israel.
Israel, however, put him to the sword
and took over his land
from the Arnon to the Jabbok,
but only as far as the Ammonites, because their border was fortified.
Israel captured all the cities of the Amorites and occupied them,
including Heshbon and all its surrounding settlements.

So Moses said to the people,
“Arm some of your men to go to war against the Midianites
and to carry out the Lord's vengeance on them.
Send into battle a thousand men from each of the tribes of Israel.”
So twelve thousand men armed for battle,
a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.
Moses sent them into battle,
a thousand from each tribe,
along with Phinehas
son of Eleazar, the priest, who took with him articles from the sanctuary
and the trumpets for signaling.
They fought against Midian,
as the Lord commanded Moses,
and killed every man.

I have wounded and I will heal,
and no one can deliver out of my hand.
I lift my hand to heaven and declare:
As surely as I live forever,
when I sharpen my flashing sword
and my hand grasps it in judgment,
I will take vengeance on my adversaries
and repay those who hate me.
I will make my arrows drunk with blood,
while my sword devours flesh:
the blood of the slain and the captives,
the heads of the enemy leaders.”

“but as commander of the army of the Lord
I have now come.”
Joshua 5:13-14
When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted,
and at the sound of the trumpet,
when the people gave a loud shout,

so every man charged straight in,
and they took the city.
They devoted the city to the Lord
and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—
men and women, young and old,
cattle, sheep and donkeys.
Joshua 6:20-21
For when Joshua and all Israel
saw that the ambush had taken the city
and that smoke was going up from the city,
they turned around and attacked the men of Ai.
The men of the ambush also came out of the city against them,
so that they were caught in the middle,
with Israelites on both sides.
Israel cut them down, leaving them neither survivors nor fugitives.
Joshua 8:21-22
When Israel had finished killing all the men of Ai
in the fields and in the desert where they had chased them,
and when every one of them had been put to the sword,
all the Israelites returned to Ai and killed those who were in it.
Twelve thousand men and women fell that day—all the people of Ai.
For Joshua did not draw back the hand that held out his javelin
until he had destroyed all who lived in Ai.
Joshua 8:24-26
So Joshua burned Ai and made it a permanent heap of ruins,
a desolate place to this day.
He hung the king of Ai on a tree and left him there until evening.
At sunset, Joshua ordered them to take his body from the tree
and throw it down at the entrance of the city gate.
And they raised a large pile of rocks over it, which remains to this day.

That day Joshua took Makkedah.
He put the city and its king to the sword

He left no survivors there.
Joshua 10:29-30
Then Joshua and all Israel with him moved on
from Libnah to Lachish;
he took up positions against it and attacked it.
The Lord handed Lachish over to Israel,
and Joshua took it on the second day.
The city and everyone in it he put to the sword,
just as he had done to Libnah.
Meanwhile, Horam king of Gezer had come up to help Lachish,
but Joshua defeated him and his army—
until no survivors were left.
Joshua 10:31-33
Then Joshua and all Israel with him
moved on from Lachish to Eglon;
they took up positions against it and attacked it.
They captured it that same day and put it to the sword
and totally destroyed everyone in it,
just as they had done to Lachish.
Joshua 10:34-35
Then Joshua and all Israel with him
went up from Eglon to Hebron and attacked it.

He totally destroyed all who breathed,
just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had commanded.
Joshua 10:40
Joshua subdued them from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza
and from the whole region of Goshen to Gibeon.
All these kings and their lands
Joshua conquered in one campaign,
because the Lord, the God of Israel,
fought for Israel.
Joshua 10:41-42
When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this,
he sent word to Jobab king of Madon,
to the kings of Shimron and Acshaph,
and to the northern kings who were in the mountains,
in the Arabah south of Kinnereth,
in the western foothills and in Naphoth Dor on the west;
to the Canaanites in the east and west;
to the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites and Jebusites in the hill country;
and to the Hivites below Hermon in the region of Mizpah.
They came out with all their troops
and a large number of horses and chariots—
a huge army, as numerous as the sand on the seashore.
All these kings joined forces
and made camp together at the Waters of Merom,
to fight against Israel.
Joshua 11:1-5
The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them,
because by this time tomorrow
I will hand all of them over to Israel, slain.
You are to hamstring their horses and burn their chariots.”
So Joshua and his whole army came against them suddenly
at the Waters of Merom and attacked them,
and the Lord gave them into the hand of Israel.
They defeated them and pursued them
all the way to Greater Sidon, to Misrephoth Maim,
and to the Valley of Mizpah on the east,
until no survivors were left.

as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded.

So Joshua took this entire land: the hill country,
all the Negev, the whole region of Goshen,
the western foothills, the Arabah
and the mountains of Israel with their foothills,
from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir,
to Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon.
He captured all their kings and struck them down,
putting them to death.
Joshua waged war against all these kings for a long time.
Joshua 11:16-18
For it was the Lord himself who hardened their hearts
to wage war against Israel,
so that he might destroy them totally,
exterminating them without mercy,
as the Lord had commanded Moses.

At that time Joshua went and destroyed the Anakites
from the hill country: from Hebron, Debir and Anab,
from all the hill country of Judah,
and from all the hill country of Israel.

“This day the Lord will hand you over to me,

1Samuel 17:47
As the Philistine moved closer to attack him,
David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him.
Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone,
he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead.
The stone sank into his forehead,
and he fell facedown on the ground.
So David triumphed over the Philistine
with a sling and a stone;
without a sword in his hand
he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
1Samuel 17:48-50
David ran and stood over him.
He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from the scabbard.
After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword.
When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead,
they turned and ran.
Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout
and pursued the Philistines
to the entrance of Gath and to the gates of Ekron.
Their dead were strewn
along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron.
1Samuel 17:48-52

I will send among them.”

because the Lord Almighty is their God.’ ”
Zechariah 12:4-5
“On that day
I will make the leaders of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile,
like a flaming torch among sheaves.
They will consume right and left all the surrounding peoples,
but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place.”
Zechariah 12:6
“The Lord will save the dwellings of Judah first,
so that the honor of the house of David
and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants
may not be greater than that of Judah.”
Zechariah 12:7
On that day
the Lord will shield those who live in Jerusalem,
so that the feeblest among them will be like David,
and the house of David will be like God,
like the Angel of the Lord going before them.
Zechariah 12:8
“On that day
I will set out to destroy all the nations
that attack Jerusalem.”
Zechariah 12:9
And I will pour out on the house of David
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem
a spirit of grace and supplication.
They will look on me, the one they have pierced,
and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child,
and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
Zechariah 12:10
On that day
the weeping in Jerusalem will be great,
like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon
in the plain of Megiddo.
Zechariah 12:11
The land will mourn, each clan by itself,
with their wives by themselves:
the clan of the house of David and their wives,
the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives,
the clan of the house of Levi and their wives,
the clan of Shimei and their wives,
and all the rest of the clans and their wives.
Zechariah 12:12-14
On that day
a fountain will be opened to the house of David
and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,
to cleanse them from sin and impurity.
Zechariah 13:1
“On that day,
I will banish the names of the idols from the land,
and they will be remembered no more,”
declares the LORD Almighty.
“I will remove both the prophets
and the spirit of impurity from the land.
And if anyone still prophesies,
his father and mother, to whom he was born, will say to him,
‘You must die, because you have told lies in the Lord's name.’
When he prophesies, his own parents will stab him.”
Zechariah 13:2-3
“On that day
every prophet will be ashamed of his prophetic vision.
He will not put on a prophet’s garment of hair in order to deceive.
He will say, ‘I am not a prophet. I am a farmer;
the land has been my livelihood since my youth.’ ”
Zechariah 13:4-5
“Awake, O sword, against my shepherd,
against the man who is close to me!”
declares the Lord Almighty.
“Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.”
Zechariah 13:7
In the whole land,” declares the Lord,
“two-thirds will be struck down and perish;
yet one-third will be left in it.
This third I will bring into the fire;
I will refine them like silver and test them like gold.
They will call on my name and I will answer them;
I will say, ‘They are my people,’
and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.’ ”
Zechariah 13:8-9
“I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it;
the city will be captured,
the houses ransacked, and the women raped.”
Zechariah 14:2
Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations,
as he fights in the day of battle.
Zechariah 14:3
On that day
his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem,
and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west,
forming a great valley,
with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.
You will flee by my mountain valley,
for it will extend to Azel.
You will flee as you fled from the earthquake
in the days of Uzziah king of Judah.
Zechariah 14:4-5
Then the Lord my God will come,
and all the holy ones with him.
Zechariah 14:5
But Jerusalem will be raised up and remain in its place,
from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate,
and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses.
It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed.
Jerusalem will be secure.
Zechariah 14:10-11
This is the plague
with which the Lord will strike all the nations
that fought against Jerusalem:
Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet,
their eyes will rot in their sockets,
and their tongues will rot in their mouths.
Zechariah 14:12
On that day
men will be stricken by the Lord with great panic.
Each man will seize the hand of another,
and they will attack each other.
Zechariah 14:13
Then the survivors
from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem
will go up year after year
to worship the King, the Lord Almighty,
and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
Zechariah 14:16
If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem
to worship the King, the Lord Almighty,
they will have no rain.
If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part,
they will have no rain.
Zechariah 14:17-18
The Lord will bring on them the plague
he inflicts on the nations
that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
This will be the punishment of Egypt
and the punishment of all the nations
that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.
Zechariah 14:18-19

Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
You will rule them with an iron scepter;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear
and rejoice with trembling.

I will make them one nation in the land,
on the mountains of Israel.
There will be one king over all of them
and they will never again be two nations
or be divided into two kingdoms.
They will no longer defile themselves
with their idols and vile images
or with any of their offenses,
for I will save them from all their sinful backsliding,
and I will cleanse them.
They will be my people, and I will be their God.
My servant David will be king over them,
and they will all have one shepherd.
They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees.
They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob,
the land where your fathers lived.
They and their children and their children’s children
will live there forever,
and David my servant will be their prince forever.
I will make a covenant of peace with them;
it will be an everlasting covenant.
I will establish them and increase their numbers,
and I will put my sanctuary among them forever.
My dwelling place will be with them;
I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Then the nations will know
that I the Lord make Israel holy,
when my sanctuary is among them forever.’ ”
Ezekiel 37:21-28

This is what the Sovereign Lord says:
‘O my people, I am going to open your graves
and bring you up from them;
I will bring you back to the land of Israel.
Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord,
when I open your graves and bring you up from them.
I will put my Spirit in you and you will live,
and I will settle you in your own land.
Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken,
and I have done it, declares the Lord.’ ”

and will become my people.
I will live among you
and you will know
that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.”
Zechariah 2:10-11
Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!
Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and having salvation,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
and the war-horses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Zechariah 9:9-10
Then the Lord will appear over them;
his arrow will flash like lightning.
The Sovereign Lord will sound the trumpet;
he will march in the storms of the south,
and the Lord Almighty will shield them.
